|Wilmington, NC Comedy Festival|
I began my comedy career at Timmy Sherrill’s open mic called Nutt Street Comedy in Wilmington, North Carolina in 2007. Every Tuesday night I would get up on stage and try out 5 to 10 minutes of ‘jokes’ to mostly comics. After a few months of getting on stage every week the word started to spread and the crowds began to show up. Eventually we were doing comedy for almost 100 people forcing us to move to the 2nd floor of the Soap Box Laundro Lounge in Downtown Wilmington (just upstairs from the original location).
After a few years I moved to East Tennessee and Timmy opened Nutt Street back in it’s basement location as a full time comedy club. In late 2009 into early 2010 we formulated plans to have a comedy festival in the town. We had witnessed what a few other fledgling festival had to offer and wanted to provide some a little different. Wilmington was becoming a hot bed for film with East Bound and Down working there as well as the tv show One Tree Hill. We felt it was time to put on a comedy festival of our own.
This year marks the 4th year of our comedy festival. Each year we have grown and we have listened and learned from both the comedian’s that have performed and the audience members that have attended. We are a comedian run, comedian first comedy festival. That is one thing that will never change.
