Knoxville is an amazing place around Christmastime. This year I am specifically thankful for my family being close by my side while I complete my fourth year away from corporate America. We may miss the $70k+ annual salary of my former employer, however, we don’t miss me working 60 hours a week, then driving 9 more hours per week round trip to my job. The best thing I ever did for my family was stop doing that. Now the only time I am gone is when I am on tour, which as many of you can see from my tour schedule is not as frequent as a ‘road-comic’.
So I want to say THANK YOU to all of you whom allowed me to live a life more focused on the things I love the most; my family, comedy and just plain living life! My son Sam is amazing and getting huge. He turned 3 in October and of course all I hear is “My God, that boy has GROWN!”. He is about 40lbs and 39 inches tall. This year he finally gets excited about Christmas. Thanks to Grandma Durbin for helping make it a good one for him. We got him plenty of things too but she spoils him, because she is Grandma and that is her job.
So hug your loved one and consider leaving your job if it takes you away from them more than 40 hours per week. ESPECIALLY if you are commuting more than 45 mintues to get there. Time to make a change and do what’s right for the people most important to your life!
